Portfolio > Barscura

The Barscura was an installation inspired by the Site Specific Camera project. David Janesko and I were among several artists who were commissioned to build an art inspired bar or lounge for the San Francisco Art Institute's 2017 Gala.

We built a large interactive camera obscura bar (or Barscura) utilizing more than 15 different types of lenses. The Barscura also contained tables and bar stools (the stools were actual functioning camera obscuras as well) and patrons were encourage to mingle and interact with the camera. The bar opened during daylight hours and stayed open well past sunset. As the light changed so did the interior of the bar creating shifts in light, projection, and perception.
